The world's largest! Jiangnan Shipbuilding 150000 cubic meters ethane transport ship started
On March 1st, the first working day of the Year of the Horse, Jiangnan Shipbuilding officially commenced construction of the 150,000 cubic meter Ultra Large Ethane Carrier (ULEC) H2846 for Eastern Pacific Shipping Pte. Ltd. (EPS). This series of ships is the world's first and largest capacity MARK III membrane-type ethane carrier order, and the ship that commenced construction is the fifth in the series.
This type of ship is the latest generation of ultra-large ethane carriers independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding. The cargo containment system uses the Mark III membrane-type containment system from France's GTT company and is named after the state flower of Louisiana, "MAGNOLIA." This type of ship can maximize the use of the water conditions at the U.S. ethane terminal to achieve maximum capacity. The ship is classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and the configured cargo containment system can accommodate ethane, ethylene, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), while also having LNG readiness capabilities, providing maximum cargo loading flexibility and adaptability throughout the ship's lifecycle.
It is understood that Jiangnan Shipbuilding officially signed the construction contract for these six 150,000 cubic meter ULECs with EPS in August 2024, becoming the world's first shipyard to undertake the construction of 150,000 cubic meter ULECs. The undertaking of this project has expanded Jiangnan Shipbuilding's range of liquefied gas carriers and plays a positive role in launching more innovative products in the future.
