On March 1, 2025, Jiangnan Shipbuilding officially started construction of the 150,000 cubic meter Very Large Ethane Carrier (ULEC) for Eastern Pacific Shipping(EPS) Company, which is the fifth ship in the world's first MARK III film ethane carrier series with the largest capacity. This type of ship is independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding. It adopts the Mark III membrane cargo enclosure system of GTT Company of France and is named after "MAGNOLIA (Magnolia). Its design takes full advantage of the terminal water conditions of ethane in the United States to maximize the capacity of the tank. The ship is classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and its cargo system can be adapted to the loading of ethane, ethylene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and has LNG ready capability, providing excellent cargo loading flexibility and market adaptability for the entire life cycle of the ship. Jiangnan Shipbuilding signed a construction contract with EPS for six ships of this type in August 2024, becoming the first shipyard in the world to undertake 150000 cubic meters of ULEC. The successful undertaking of this project not only expands the product spectrum of Jiangnan Shipbuilding in the field of liquefied gas transport ships, but also lays a solid foundation for its subsequent launch of more innovative ship types.
