Highlights at a glance
In March 2026, the operational efficiency of ocean-going international container ships in major ports around the world showed different trends. The efficiency of China's major ports rebounded significantly, with average time in port and berthing time of 1.40 and 0.84 days, respectively, down 15.7 and 15.2 per cent month-on-month, respectively, and better than the average of 11 major foreign ports (2.50 and 1.94 days). The efficiency of major ports in Europe and the United States remained generally stable: the Port of Hamburg in Europe fell 11.0 per cent month-on-month when it stopped, while the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp rose; the Port of Long Beach in the West fell 5.8 per cent month-on-month when it stopped, and the Port of New York fell 0.4 per cent. In addition, due to the complex situation in the Middle East, the Asia-Persian Gulf route was suspended in the middle and late of the year, the risk of passage in the Strait of Hormuz increased, and the number of ship calls at Dubai Port was significantly reduced to only five. The report reflects the significant impact of geopolitical factors on the operation of specific routes and the relatively efficient operation of Chinese ports during the month.
