The sea use of the fifth phase of the Nansha Port area of Guangzhou Port has been officially approved by the State Council, which is a key step before the full construction of the project. As a major project planned by the country's "14th Five-Year Plan" and a key project of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's world-class port group, its total investment estimate is 14.447 billion billion yuan. It is planned to build 4 200000-ton container seagoing berths and 15 5,000-ton barge berths and 5 working ship berths, with an annual design capacity of 6.7 million TEUs. The project started in August 2025. After completion, it will operate in coordination with the existing terminals to significantly enhance the container handling capacity and international shipping hub function of Guangzhou Port. As the core port area of Guangzhou Port, Nansha Port Area has exceeded 20 million TEUs in 2024, ranking first in the world. The advancement of the fifth phase of the project will further optimize the port layout, enhance comprehensive service capabilities, and provide solid support for Guangzhou to build a marine innovation and development capital and help Guangdong build a strong marine province.
