The sea-use application for Phase V of the Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port has been approved by the State Council.
China News Service, Guangzhou, March 26 (Reporter Cai Minjie) The reporter learned from the Guangzhou Port Authority on the 26th that with the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Natural Resources has officially approved the use of the sea for the Phase V project of the Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port. This marks a critical breakthrough in this major national "14th Five-Year Plan" project, with the project fully commencing construction to overcome the final hurdle, injecting strong momentum into Guangzhou's construction of an international shipping hub.
It is understood that the Phase V project of the Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port is one of the 102 major projects included in the national "14th Five-Year Plan" and is also a major construction project of the world-class port cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It carries the important mission of implementing national strategies and promoting regional coordinated development. The total investment estimate for the project is 14.447 billion yuan, and it will construct four 200,000-ton container ship berths, fifteen 5,000-ton container barge berths, and five workboat berths, with an annual designed throughput capacity of 6.7 million TEUs. The preliminary project will commence on August 8, 2025, and upon completion, it will coordinate with the existing container terminals in the Nansha Port Area, further consolidating and enhancing the status of Guangzhou Port as a container trunk port, strengthening Guangzhou's international shipping hub function, and enhancing the overall international competitiveness of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area port cluster.
Currently, the Nansha Port Area has developed into the core port area of Guangzhou Port and the core carrying area for Guangzhou's construction of an international shipping hub. The cumulative container throughput for 2024 officially exceeded 20 million TEUs, ranking among the top in the world for a single port area. The accelerated advancement of the Phase V project of the Nansha Port Area will further improve the terminal layout of the Nansha Port Area, enhance the comprehensive service capacity of the port, and provide solid support for Guangzhou's construction of a city of marine innovation development and assist Guangdong in fully building a strong marine province.
