On March 26, 2024, the first zero-carbon transportation fleet in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River was announced in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Its symbol is the first voyage of pure electric container ships "China Airlines Xinneng 2" and "China Airlines Xinneng 3. The fleet was built by the Central China Port and Shipping Group, with a total of 5 pure electric ships. Since the first ship "China Airlines Xinneng 1" was put into operation in November 2023, it has sailed nearly 100000 kilometers on the Yangtze River, realizing the whole process of "zero emission, zero pollution and zero carbon" transportation, and a single ship can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 334 tons per year. After all the ships are put into operation, the "daily shift" mode will be used to open inter-city green routes from Wuhan to Ezhou, Huanggang and other provinces, aiming to build an efficient Hanjiang-Yangtze River green water transport channel. This move explores the innovative path of large-scale, commercial green transformation for China's inland waterway, which is mainly powered by internal combustion engines. At the same time, the article points out that Hubei, as the province with the longest mileage of the Yangtze River, occupies a leading position in the R & D and design of green intelligent ships and supporting electric drive systems, and has set a development goal of exceeding 130 billion yuan in the output value of the shipbuilding industry by 2027.
