Public Lecture Series on Maritime Safety Culture Launches
"What kind of person can be called a navigator?" "What kind of turbulent waves do they face during ocean voyages?" On April 18, the Maritime Safety Culture Public Lecture, launched by the Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation Safety Training Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Training Center"), was held at the National Maritime Museum.
This event, themed "The Great Navigators," featured trainers discussing topics such as "What is a navigator," "The historical significance of Zheng He's seven voyages to the West," "The risks and challenges faced by navigators," and "The legacy and dreams of navigation." They transformed historical facts into captivating navigation stories, guiding the public to experience the spirit of navigation through vivid and engaging storytelling.
During the interactive session, children eagerly raised their hands to answer questions, creating a lively atmosphere. "I think this kind of science education is very inspiring for children. During the Dragon Boat Festival, I also took my child to a handmade fan-making activity. This is the first time we’ve attended a public science course, and my child listened very attentively. We will definitely come again next time," said Ms. Bai, a citizen who brought her child to the lecture.
It is understood that since 2025, the Training Center has conducted eight sessions of the Maritime Safety Culture Classroom at the National Maritime Museum. The content system covers two core areas: navigation and safety, benefiting nearly 500 people in total. This May, the Training Center will continue to launch four more sessions of the Maritime Safety Culture Public Lecture, focusing on topics such as ship types, marine oil spills, ships and our lives, and maritime emergencies. These efforts aim to continuously spread ocean knowledge, promote the spirit of navigation, and enhance the public's scientific literacy about the ocean.
Over the years, the Training Center has conducted public science education activities benefiting more than 30,000 people, reaching schools, communities, enterprises, and other areas. In the future, the Training Center will continue to promote safety knowledge into thousands of households, contributing to the accelerated construction of a maritime power and the high-quality development of the marine economy.
